Bones and George Henry
It's hard to believe but it's been one year since George Henry started coming around. Technically Mom made the decision to "adopt" him in January, but I mean come on. She says he's the most sensitive one in the family in that he seems to get his feelings hurt the easiest. He is very very affectionate and has never hissed at anyone besides Miley. We are happy to have him around. He's been playing with Bones lately. He loves to play with string and is very chatty.

Flannery
Mom has been watching little Flannery on facebook. You can read more about him here at the Curly Tail Pug Rescue
In short there was a puppy mill rescue pregnant pug named Clementine. She lost all of her pups but one, Flannery. On a side note, I got Mom to go to bed tonight at 9:00pm. ha ha

Bedtime
Brutus here. All of the sudden for the past two weeks Mom has been staying up really really late. Anyone else having this problem? Solutions are welcomed. It's very annoying. I need my rest.
**Note from Stacy, since the time change, Brutus and Miley are both ready to go to bed at about 8pm. Anyone else having this issue? Brutus in particular gives me some very stern looks.

Drawing of Brutus

Stacy here. First off sorry we've been MIA. My Mom and Dad visited this weekend and I had spent the week getting ready for that and some other work stuff.
I thought the drawing that Kelly had done of Sophie and her beloved former pug Oliver was too cute.
So I contacted Lili over at Doggie Drawings and had Brutus drawn. I thought a while about what I should have her draw. Finally I went with Brutus' favorite two activities, sleeping and eating. He also does love to play especially with is blue and brown teddy Rupert. The drawing was inspired by the pictures of him sleeping below. I love it!
Happy Monday everyone!

New Shampoo and better google reader
Brutus here. Apparently I've made Mom pretty mad. She's been giving me a bath once a week for over a month! YUK.
I have greasy hair and dandriff. So lately I've been getting scabs that fall off and leave patches of no hair in my coat. Moms been watching money so she's been giving me the baths instead of getting me groomed.
She's been shampooing me with regular stuff from PetSmart. Nothing special just regular old shampoo. She decided last week to get this shampoo. Keratolux. Mom did some research and apparently I need some medicated shampoo. She is also adding a little bit of Omega 3 Fatty acids to my diet.
I think I smell fine but she says since she's been bathing me since the past month I get more smelly at the end of the week. Whatever!
On a side note, those of you who use google reader, if you download Better google reader, you can make comments on individuals blogs and see their blogs as a webpage inside google reader!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another Epic Fail (as a foster parent)
It's a girl! After much thought and prayer, I've decided to adopt Miley!
I'm too attached and enjoy her too much. She fits in with the others and provides Brutus with some exercise and stimulation that he probably wouldn't get if not for her.
She's been here almost 7 months and she's only stayed in one place in her short life (2 years old) for 8months at a time. Too many people have given up on her. She is a wonderful little dog.
I'm excited but nervous about the responsibility of another dog. Althought, as a friend said the other day, "you've already adopted Miley."
We hope everyone has a great weekend! Can't wait to see all of the pics from Pugtoberfest!

No Addisons!
Found out a while ago Miley does not have Addisons. Thanks to all of you for your kind words and well wishes.
We also wanted to thank everyone for their kind words about Koko. My Dad is doing really good about the loss.
I've been bad about posting and commenting. My new goal is to try to post/comment a couple of times a week. I just can't do it every day.
Things here have been pretty good. I am seriously considering adopting Miley. She's been with us since March. I am very attached and I even think Brutus is use to her. I also had a friend tell me she's good for me in that she distracts me from work sometimes. I do have to say that sometimes when I take myself or life too seriously she reminds me that we should all live in the moment. She definitely lives in the moment. I have been holding out hope that a family or couple with another dog would adopt her. No such luck. Maybe there is a bigger plan.
What I struggle with is having all of these animials. I don't know. Also if I adopt her no way can I foster. I am barely making it with 2 dogs.
On a lighter note, the pugs have really enjoyed this cool weather. I have too!

Koko
Mom's Horse Koko had to be put down on Wed Sept 16th. Technically she was Moms horse but her Dad actually took care of her.
Koko was 36 years old. She had a parter Goldie who died about 10 years ago. Koko was like Moms "big sister" in that Koko was in the family before Mom was born. Grandpa had gotten Koko when she was just 18 months old.
Luckily she got sick and had neurological problems for only about a week. The vet said she woudln't get better and was in some pain. Grandpa didn't want her to suffer. She was put down and then later that day Grandpa and some friends got a backhoe and buried her in the pasture. She was buried with her favorite treat that Grandpa would bring her every day, two banannas.
I got to meet Koko once when Mom took me out in the hills. Koko almost punted me like a football. Not on purpose of course.
We'll miss you old gal. We hope you are up there with Goldie eating grass, frolicing around and getting lots and lots of banannas.

Miley gone wild
MIA
Hi everyone! Brutus here. We've been a bit tardy about posting and commenting. We've been reading everyone's blog though.
We even missed the Sept pug meet up. Then I hear we aren't going to Pugapalooza. What a buzzkill. Everything is ok Mom is a bit distracted with some work and personal stuff. Mom tends to isolate herself when she gets like this. blah blah blah.
Miley had a crisis. She went back for bloodwork and some of the enzymes were still high so Dr. Grasso wanted to test her for Addison's Disease.
It is the common name for hypoadrenocorticism, or adrenal insufficiency. It is a disease with symptoms that are common in many other ailments, making diagnosis difficult and sometimes a process of elimination. But once Addison's is correctly diagnosed, a properly treated dog can live a normal active life.
We will know about her results on Thursday or Friday and we'll post an update. I got to ride in the car when we took her to vet earlier today! YES
I have been doing great. Although Mom has given me a bath 2 times in the past 2 weeks. Apparently I have allergies and have been getting scabs on my skin so I get tortured. A bath and then the furminator. I don't have anymore scabs so you'd think she would stop with the baths? Mom is a little slow.
Love, Brutus

Miley update
Went by to see Miley this afternoon. She looks great and was very excited to see me. Dr. Grasso is testing her for leptospirosis. He says she should be able to go home tomorrow afternoon. She has been eating and kept everything down. He wants to do another blood test maybe early next week just to make sure she is back to normal. He is not sure what caused her liver enzymes to be so high. We are waiting on the lepto... test and go from there.
On a site note Brutus demanded that I put some pictures of him up on here. He is doing great by the way. He is enjoying being the "only child" for lack of a better term.
Happy Tuesday everyone!

Update on Miley
Dropped off Miley at the vet. Although she was feeling better and kept her dinner and breakfast down, her liver enzymes were 200x higher than normal and has an elevated blood count. She is on IV fluids and some antibiotics. Should be able to come home on Tuesday. Poor girl.
They are not sure what caused this. Could be a couple of different things. Should know more tomorrow.

Miley had an exiting Sat morning
These pics are from the other day when Miley was sleeping.
Miley got sick in the middle of the night. She was panting so I thougth she needed to go potty. She ended up puking 4 times and then going lethargic. After she got done puking she literally laid down and went limp. I called the vet and he said monitor and he'd call in the morning. I put her in bed with me and she was restless the entire night. She would lay in bed but then move or get up and move and then lay back down. It was as if she just couldn't get comefortable. I took her in to the vet at 11am.
X rays were normal. Mileys temp was about 2 degrees below normal and her abdomen was a little distended. Dr. Grasso gave her a shot of antibiotics, a shot to help with her tummy and is running blood work.
So far this afternoon she's been laying on the lounge chair asleep/resting. She is getting better over time. We are not sure what was/is wrong.
Hope everyone else is having a less dramatic Saturday!

Mom cried during District 9 HAHHAHAA
Mom is such a baby. She cried during District 9.
It took her a day or two to realize why she got so upset, but for her the small prawn (the child) in the film.....reminded her of Miley.
Not in how they look obviously, but how cute Christophers little son was.
HAHAHHAHA Mom is so silly.
She really enjoyed the movie.
She looked for a while to find a pic of the little guy but couldn't. This is Christopher.

Here is Miley.

Happy Tattletale Tues!

Thoughts about the MV 60 minutes interview

He didn't seem sincere. I didn't see him as a person. He was too cold.
Everytime he was asked about the dog fighting or the effect he would answer as to how it would effect him or his friends/family.
He didn't get disgusted with himself until he was in prison. A sign that he thought this behavior was ok.
I didn't think the interviewer asked tough enough questions. Why did you do it? How could you torture those animals?
Oh if the picture above pic were true.
My vet has this pic up in his office.

Lastly, here is a press conference from Brewster regarding MV.

Michael Vick
I have been struggling some with the whole Michael Vick (MV) thing for a few reasons.
1. There will never be "justice" for those dogs. What could you do to MV? Some say kill him. That would still not get justice. It would send a heck of a message though.
2. Technically speaking of course, he did play his debt. He served his time and has also publicly apologized many times. Now don't get all mad at me, I know he hasn't paid his debt to those dogs but you know what I mean.
3. He has apologized. He has at least apologized. I know that doesn't mean much to the dogs that were harmed/killed/tortured but his apology does mean something. Some people do evil things and never apologize.
Mom listens to Howard Stern and he has discussed MV a few times. Most recently this week. MV is going to be on this weeks edition of 60 minutes. Howard called him a scum bag and said he's just trying to improve his image. Then a discussion occurred. Should any NFL teams hire him after what he's done. Howard said no, Robin said he has a right to earn a living. Howard said then he can go drive a bus. More discussion but what was funny was Howard asked Robin, if you had a pro team would you hire him? Robin responded "HELL NO"
What I am struggling with is this; Does he deserve a chance to change or should I continue to wish he had the same torture done to him that he inflicted on the dogs?
I just don't know. Sometimes people deserve a second chance? Sometimes people don't. I don't have the answer but it's really gotten me thinking lately. It should be interesting after MV is on 60 minutes. Honestly I don't know if I want to watch. This will more than likely humanize Michael Vick and I am not sure I want to see him as human. To me he is a monster.
I am closing with a picture of a Pit Bull Momma and her pups. A happy picture.

Wordfull Wed
Some things have gone on lately. Wanted to post.
We did pug sit Harley. He is such a great dog. We enjoyed having him. All of the kitties were fine with him too. He fit right in!

One funny thing though. Harley is a very loud breather and makes various noises. I don't mind it as it's just regular background noise. Miley had never met Harley though and when she first met him and he did his breathing thing, she thought he was growling. The hair on the back of her hide stood up all the way down her back. She was just looking at him trying to figure out what he was doing. It didn't take her long to realize Harley was harmless.

All of the cats are good but the outdoor kitteh IJ (above) was pretty sick right before I left to go to IL. The first day I realize it when he was standing on the kitchen table eating and he leaned back and sneezed and snot went everywhere. I've had cats my entire life and had never seen anything like that. The next morning he was even worse with the coughing and sneezing and also had a swollen face. Our vet is so great. He worked us in on a Sat and gave him a antibiotic shot. He was better the next day as far as the face swelling. When I got home from IL he was looking great but still sneezing some. He gets better every day.
My good friend (boyfriend?) Mark came to visit and finally met Brutus. I was excited for him to see Brutus, George Henry and Miley. No pics from all of that as I was so nervous (for no reason) I just didn't take any pictures.
The visit home to IL was good. I had some good time with my Mom and Dad individually and together. I even went to one of the Dr visits with my Dad. My Dad has pulmonary fibrosis and is on oxygen. On top of that he's got something wrong with his vocal cords.
I boarded Miley while I was in IL. When I went to pick her up I really thought she was going to explode from excitement. I was relived because I've only boarded her with Brutus and not by herself.
I took Brutus with me to IL. Miley is just too active and michevious for my parents house. Brutus fits right in. It's so funny because he follows my Mom around. It was also good bonding time for Brutus and I. Miley is fun to have around but it's all about her because of her youth and energy level. Brutus was way more active and entergentic when we were in IL than he is here. If the poor guy does anything at all Miley thinks he wants to play and just harasses him. She just loves him and he just wants none of it. I feel bad for both of them. Brutus has done a great job of tolerating her energy. She so needs a playmate. We've had one family interested but they got cold feet. I pray she finds her forever home soon. She's been with us almost 5 months. The longer she stays the harder it is for her and for me to let her go. Part of me wants to keep her because she's an excellent dog. The timing just isn't right. She just doesn't fit in with our family long term due to almost everyone else being geriatric. It would be years before I could get her a playmate and by then she will be a senior!
We missed the KPR 500 Festival. We were driving back from IL that day. We've missed the last two that were close and went to the ones in KY. So our goal now is to make the next one in IN.
We have been reading all of the blogs just not commenting. We were happy to hear Walter is better and got his care package. Loved all of the pics from the KPR festival especially the one of Minnie Pearl. We agree with Pearls mom in that it is too hot move.
End with some cute pics of Harley.

Ollie went to his forever home!
Stacy here. Every now and then I look at the pugs up for adoption through KPR and the past adoptions. I went on there today and noticed Ollie/Ozzie has found his forever home. YAY
Here are some pics of Brutus and Miley from the pug meetup almost a month ago. They were both so tired.

Happy Birthday Brutus and short hiatus
Hi all, Stacy here. Brutus turns 9 in a few days. I just took him for his yearly check up and everything is going good. He has really started to get white around the face lately.
I need to take a break from blogging/posting for a bit. I will still be reading everything through google reader. I just can't keep up with the posting and commenting. I only have a few weeks of vacation left and I am no where near in the place I need to be writing wise and I am freaking out. I am heading into my 5th year of the tenure track position (6th year is crucial) and am in OK shape but I had hoped to have had 3 articles written over the summer. I am not even close.
My Dad is in the hospital again. He's been sick and in and out since January. First lung issues, now nosebleeds and blood loss. I'm too distracted with his situation.
I feel pressure to comment and post about the pugs but most of the time don't know what to say. They I get frustrated that we are not commenting and I don't want to look rude. Don't get me wrong I know our blog is not all that and that we are not "so important", I just wanted to explain why I won't be posting or commenting for a while.
I will post if something big happens like Miley gets adopted or anything of that nature.
Love,
Stacy

Happy Birthday Miley!
Yesterday, July 20th was Mileys birthday! She turned 2! She's been with us 5 months. She is too cute. I am going to be so upset when she gets adopted. I have so enjoyed having a little girl.

.
I don't know if you can see it on this pic but Miley gets a full body mowhawk when she gets startled or excited.
If we are out walking and she hears another dog or some noise startles her the hair on her back and the back of her head stands up. It's hilarious.

Walter and Torchwood
I know some of you have posted about Walter but we wanted to post too. Mom feels so bad for him and his Mom Heather. He is doing better though.

On a side note Torchwood: Children of Earth starts Monday (tomorrow) on BBC America. Mom loves that show. She is partial to John Barrowman who plays Captain Jack Harkness. She loves his character and thinks he's super sexy. Whatever mom.

Miley and Marley
There is a dog down the street named Marley. She is a beautiful dog. Miley loves her because they can run together.
Good thing she did all of this running around before the meetup on Sat.
Both of us were very tired. We had a great time though. Miley did well as she didn't have her tail between her legs the whole time during the Indy Meetup and the afterparty.

Summer08 then 09 pics
I wanted my Mom to see my flowers and also track the progress of them since last year so I took some pictures.
These are set up so that you see last summer then this summer. All sunflowers are considered volunteer in that I didn't plant them. The second summer I lived in the house I planted sunflowers and have never had any problems growing them since.
Summer 08

Last summer - This pic is a different angle than the one below but still the same area.

I didn't water the blackeyed susans so they aren't as full as last year. They are at the bottom right corner of the pic. Those coneflowers are almost as tall as I am!

Last summer too.

This summer. Notice my yellow coreopsis bush/plant? I didn't water the purple and it didn't grow much. I've been watering the last few days.

This year. Notice the white coneflowers didn't grow much. You can barely see them. They needed water. The two big plants you see are volunteer catnip plants.

Miley
Hi all, I have been reading but not commenting. I am hoping to catch up on all of that today/tomorrow. Some very exciting stuff going on out there!
Mom here and I wanted to post about Miley. She is so cute and has made some wonderful progress. Really she wasn't that bad but she has calmed down some. Mainly me keeping the edge off her energy with to 3-4 walks a day even in HOT weather. I think at her other home she barked when someone was outside and she's done some of that here but a squirt with a watter bottle gets her to stop. She gets this look on her face like, "oh I guess you want me to stop doing that." Sometimes though, a girl just has to get a little rilled up.
She gets the concept of things she should and shouldn't do and for the most part tries to please. No more incidents with poop and today like she's done since that incident she started to eat some and I told her no and she took a bite but ran from it to catch up with us walking. She knows the word NO. She is almost always busy, which is why I think she would be happier in a different environment. She is not miserable here but she would do better in a more stimulating environment. The little Bichon Freese Oscar she played with some disappeared a few weeks ago. The owners were letting him run the neighborhood. Myself and another neighbor were feeding him and then letting him in his house at night. None of us know what happened to him. I like to think that someone saw that his owners weren't taking proper care and either they, or friends of theirs picked him up and is now taking care of him. So Miley did lose one playmate.
Lately she's done of a few things that are exceptionally cute.
First she has really started to try to play with George Henry our kitty. She will follow him and sniff him and squat in front of him trying to get him to chase her. Today she licked him on the face. George Henry just continued his head butt to her.
Second there is a neighborhood kitten that follows us some when we walk over by it's house. Not sure of it's name. Miley also tries to play with the kitten. At first the kitten was a little taken back by it. Now the kitten greets Miley with a head butt.
Third, Miley has started letting me give her belly rubs. She will finally flip over! I have tried numerous times and she ends up standing up. This little girl has some serious trust issues with humans. She likes Dogs, cats, other animals better than people. It's not that she doesn't like people she just will not let strangers pet her. She will walk up to them and lick them but when they try to pet, she shuffles away. She is getting better though with people she sees a lot like some of the neighborhood kids. Yesterday she went right up to one of then and let him pet her without any running away or lowering the head.
Anyway, I just wanted to post about her. She's turning 2 this month and has been with us almost 5 months. I have enjoyed her and wanted to post some memories about her so I don't forget.

Remember me?

In honor (sarcasm) of it being so hot and humid, here is pic of me in cooler weather which I happen to enjoy.
We will catch up this weekend with posts!
We hope everyone who can participate has a great take your Doggie to work Day tomorrow! Can't wait to see the pics and hear the stories.
Mom traveled to 2 conferences (San Antonio TX and then Las Vegas) and left us at the Doggie Day Care When she picked us up today we were so excited to see her. I ran incircles. Then we got home, ate and crashed. Even Miley slept! Somehow the cats were able to stay in the house? I don't understand that at all. I mean they pee and poop IN the house?
Both of us had gastrointestinal problems while we were boarded. Sorry, no pics....bummer I know. Mom thinks it was due to stress of not being home. Sandi and her folks were so worried they took us to the vet on Monday! Our spirits were fine but we were having "issues." Mom was very grateful but she did feel bad for us.
Mom missed reading your blogs! She was only able to read about 3 times this week!

Plum and Lori
Another blogger, Lori, is fostering a neglected female pug named Plum.
I have really enjoyed reading her posts. She is taking great care of Plum and it's great seeing her progress.
I sing to Brutus his name, and his nick name is "franks and beans" Dumb I know.
I also sing to Miley "little girl" "baby girl" "miley me" and "red beans and rice" The red beans and rice was about the time a funny Sir Mix Alot skit aired on SNL.
....red beans and rice did miss her.......

Thanks

Thanks to all of you who posted or read about my lil ordeal.
Mom is an athletic trainer and is little familiar with determing if my injuries are soft tissue or bone, etc. She teaches students how to evaluate lower and upper extremity injuries/conditions. So please don't think that her not panicing is that she doesn't love me. Mom freaks out about small things but is calm when something big happens.
On a side note mom said something about getting her eyebrows threaded today and that is HURTs worse then waxing. I didn't think eyebrows were long enough to braid.
Happy weekend everyone!

Shocking
Stacy here. So I get home today and let the pugs out. I walk out to Brutus and notice he's limping (back left foot). From the get go I'm thinking he got stung by something. So I try to look at it and find nothing. His foot is a bit swollen but not that much. After a few more minutes I decide to call the vet. In the meantime he's doing ok limping but otherwise in good spirts.
He goes into the front room and sits down. I walk over to pet him and notice he's peeing. Ok, so I then go get a towel and when he's done I try to move him and he's also pooped. Now I am concerned. He does not have accidents in the house. Vet still hasn't called back. I coax him outside. He's panting and just looks uncomefortable. He goes into the yard and sits/lays down and then at times tries to poop. At first some things come out, and then very little. Anyway, this goes on for 30 minutes.
In the meantime I'm thinking about giving him benadryl but also afraid in case it's not allergies. I had been taking water to him and he did drink a lot. Part of me wondered about a stroke b/c of the bathroom problems.
Vet finally calls! He was on a run and didn't feel his pager.
So he says it might be a slight anaphylactic reaction. Give him Benadryl.
I put two Benadryl in some soft food, no luck. He won't eat.
I then just put two Benadryl in his mouth. Luckily he didn't spit them out. They started dissolve and he started smacking and foaming a bit at the mouth. He manages to spit out one of them but half of the powder had made it into his system.
That must have made him feel better because within 5 minutes he's back to normal!
I then put another benadryl in food and bam, he ate it!
He's been fine ever since. Like nothing happened!
I have had so much go on in the past 2 weeks that I didn't even panic. Every day for the past 2 weeks after work or at work there has been something wrong, broken, needed fixing etc. When it rains it pours.
We had a great time at Pugapalooza but my friend that I brought hasn't sent the pics yet. I hope you all have a great Friday!
Anyone else ever have this happen with their Pug?

Perez Hilton featured KPR

Thank you Perez Hilton! Mom knows some don't like him in general. Also Mom doesn't always agree with him but she does like his website and it's a regular in her google reader.
Anyway, so Mom saw Perez had featured a MN pug rescue group as a charity. Recently Perez has been featuring charities. Anyway, Mom emailed Perez and asked him if he would feature KPR sometime. He did! Mom wasn't trying to overstep any bounds. She didn't contact Perez on behalf of KPR but on behalf of a pround pug mom that hoped he would feature the charity.
Here is a video of Perez with his dog Teddy.
Thank you Perez!

Odd and ends
Hi all. Brutus here. Lots of stuff has happened lately.
Mom got a new car because of a deal she got. She didn't really want a new car but the deal was too good to pass up. She wanted another white car but the only white on there didn't have Sirius XM radio. So instead she went with the sage/tan color.

She has the new Sync So basically she programs her phone into the car and says Phone and then call blah blah and the phone works through the car on voice command. I could care less as long as she lets me ride in the car.
Mom took a Transindental Meditation class. She has heard Howard Stern talk about his benefits from meditation. Mom has serious anxiety issues (that's a whole other post). She emailed the TM center and was lucky enough to have a certified TM teacher right here in Muncie! And she was able to get in a class less than a week later! She took the class with 2 other people. She really enjoyed it.
We did miss going to see everyone at the The Pug Posses on Sat. Miley had been having some tummy probs and that afternoon when Mom took her to the vet. She also had a flea on her. So when they got back all of us got our flea meds. Oh joy. Since Miley has been on the antibiotics she's been better.
Happy Tuesday everyone!

Bones
I have this lounge chair thing. Here is a pic of lilly and Bones on it.
I have been sitting in it a lot lately. Bones lays up on the top if it. Lately when he does he will put his paw on my shoulder. He may not keep it there very long but he does it almost every time.

The above pic was taken of the two of them right after I had brought Brutus home. They were both pretty scared and unsure of him. I was just amazed they were this close without hissing.
Here is a cute story about Sol. I am sorry for the folks at OBP because I am imagining that scream. She's gotta get some audio of that one.
